How to Stop Craving Sugar


Learning how to stop craving sugar can be a huge and overwhelming task when you consider how many food and drink products have high concentrations of sugar.  The cravings that sugar produces in our body are similar to other addictions.  Yes, it is an addiction and you can overcome it.  Now, in order to stop sugar cravings, there are a number of things you can directly do with regard to what you are eating, and how you handle those sugar cravings, and then there is the mental addiction and what you can do about that.

Learning how to stop craving sugar is very manageable if you know how to curb those cravings and replace it with something healthy.  One of the first things you can do is to provide yourself with healthy options that are somewhat sweet to eat when that sugar craving strikes.  Fruits are a great substitute.  If this is not sufficient, add more protein to your diet.  Sometimes the body is really craving protein.  Consider drinking water or going for a walk when you experience cravings.  Also, after a meal, brush your teeth and use mouthwash to clean your mouth.  Often, changing the taste in your mouth is all that is needed to derail a desire for sugar.

In an effort to continue learning how to stop craving sugar, plan each of your meals.  Plan the main dish, fruits, vegetables, and reasonable occasional desserts as appropriate.  When you do have a dessert, go for perfect pleasure over a large quantity of a “low fat” version or something similar.  When you go grocery shopping, you will know what is on your list.  Stick to your list!  This is a guaranteed way to put a halt to sugar cravings. Also, while at the store, be sure to read each of the labels on anything in a box or can that you buy.  However, if you “perimeter shop”, that is, going around the outside primarily, you will find that your diet will improve dramatically.
