Past Life Regression
Past life regression is a way to recover memories from past lives. Certified counsellors and psychotherapists use hypnosis in a controlled setting to enable this process. Hypnosis allows the client to be more susceptible to suggestion than under normal circumstances. This means that the questions asked to lead them must be carefully
considered. The results may be distorted or false memories created, otherwise. Results vary from one individual to another. However, those who believe in reincarnation seem to experience the most success. It is often considered an extension of age regression and is approached in the same manner.
Past life regression is a highly controversial therapy technique. There is one group that insists that this type of therapy is used by morally lax amateurs. The goal is to deceive the public at large for profit. Another group believes that this technique is instrumental in effectively solving an individual’s issues. That by removing subconscious roadblocks, it will help them improve their lives. It is based on the belief that human souls are eternal and that the experience and knowledge from one life can be passed forward to the next. Our souls choose to learn specific lessons that we set for ourselves in each life.
Often, the picture painted of past lives is filled with metaphors to be interpreted rather than memories. One of the goals for most practitioners is to help a client overcome a past trauma or investigate the root cause of a phobia. In each case, it is being addressed because the client is experiencing some sort of difficulty in the current phase of their life. Past life regression therapy often begins with age regression. During this process, various events that occurred earlier in life are explored. Then concentration is placed on a specific time and place.
If there no traumatic events found that explain the reason for the issues, past life regression is attempted. Deep relaxation methods are used to do this, such as hypnosis or guided imagery. The counsellor guides the client through several significant events in that lifetime. The purpose of the life and the lessons learned are reviewed. This technique is often effective when more traditional therapy methods fail to bring the results that are needed to improve quality of life. In recent years it has become accepted by mainstream counsellors as a valid therapy method.
