Weight Reduction Using Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis is defined as a modified state of consciousness that is often times brought on by using the help of a hypnotherapist, who will use techniques such as creating mental images and verbal repetition.  While someone is in a hypnotic state, their attention is much more focused and they are shown to be more receptive to suggestions.  The Weight Reductionmost common suggestions given to people who are in a hypnotic state are those of behavioural changes.  These behaviour changes can help people to deal with many issues like smoking, addictions, pain management, drug use, sport performance, sexual problems, various phobias, and weight reduction.

With obesity rates on the rise, people are looking at all kinds of different weight reduction techniques.  Everything from the traditional diet and exercise to pills that are supposed to help someone to quickly lose weight are being explored.  Hypnosis is one of the more appealing methods that people have turned to for their weight reduction needs, due to people not having the time or desire to exercise, but still want to change their diet and eating habits.  Many people may realize they have problem with eating too much unhealthy food, or may have an addiction to eating, but they don’t know how to go about changing that behaviour.  That is where a hypnotherapist comes in.

Hypnosis has been around for a few hundred years, and yet, scientists still do not know exactly how or why it happens.  A person can be seen and observed while in a hypnotic state, however what is going on in their mind has yet to be made clear.  People like psychiatrists who use hypnotism as a part of their practice, understand the basic characteristics associated with hypnotism and have a general model laid out of how it works.  When being hypnotized to help with weight reduction or some other issue, it can best be described as being in a trance, in a relaxed state of mind, with an increased sense of imagination that allows for intense suggestibility.

It is kind of like sleep, but not really, since the person is alert for the duration.  A better comparison would be daydreaming or the feeling someone gets when they get “lost” in a film or a novel.  The person is still conscious, but they just block out everything else around them while undergoing hypnosis.  This is what allows for behaviour changes, like weight reduction, to be made with the person completely focused on the suggestion.
