Stop Masturbating
Masturbation addiction is a compulsive desire to masturbate. This is what is called a process addiction as opposed to one to a substance. The compulsion is connected to an action. There is a strong feeling of need to do the act. The feeling is so strong that it cannot be ignored and has to be acted upon. A high comes from engaging in the act. That high comes from a release of chemicals in the brain. The brain gets used to these chemicals and seeks out more and more. This affliction is often part of a series or constellation of issues including a compulsion for pornography and sex with others.
It may seem that masturbation addiction would be fairly harmless and that it would be easy to stop masturbating. Masturbation has an effect on the mind and body and can be extremely destructive. The physical effects have to do with the chemicals released in the brain at the point of orgasm. The brain craves them and this leads to more and more instances of the act which then becomes more difficult to stop masturbating. Orgasm begins to happen more and more quickly. This can create problems when the individual is in a relationship with another person. The emotional aspects are also destructive. This is an inherently selfish act. Any emotional needs other than that of the addict’s are ignored. Sex, whether it is a one person affair or with another person becomes nothing more than a means to an end.
Masturbation addiction can be difficult to identify. Signs can include a preoccupation with the act even when involved in other activities or a need to do it more and more to find satisfaction and the person with the addiction finds it more and more difficult to stop masturbating. Another sign would be an inability to stop as well as feelings of irritation, depression or moodiness when an attempt to quit is made. There is also a disregard for negative consequences. They are just not enough to make the addict stop masturbating. Even if these consequences include the loss of a job or a relationship, it is not enough.
Masturbation addiction can be treated and the person with the addiction can stop masturbating. It is generally a disorder that requires help as opposed to something that can be dealt with by the individual suffering. There is a great deal of shame and embarrassment that accompanies this and that often keeps people from seeking treatment. Successfully treating someone to stop masturbating may include addiction counselling along with hypnotherapy and by using mp3 hypnosis downloads which helps with behaviour modification. It will also seek to determine the underlying causes for the issue and deal with those as well.
